Guns For Christmas

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Today must be Christmas!

I got my Bushmaster back today. While I haven’t fired it yet, it doesn’t really matter, because the trigger is “BUTTA”. (Butter for those of you who aren’t Jewish or watch old Saturday Night Live clips.) The old trigger had, I swear, a 15 lbs pull. The new Bushmaster 2-stage trigger they put in for me has like a 3 or 4 lbs pull. (Sing with me now: 1 little, 2 little, 3 dead squirrels, 4 little, 5 little, 6 dead squirrels….. sung to some song I remember when I was a kid that had something to do with “Little Indians”.)

Remember, I had them put in a 2 stage trigger when I sent it to them to fix the jamming problem it was having. I was going to be really cheap and just buy a 2 stage and put it in myself, until they informed me that, according to a federal national database that they can tap into, I’m an Idiot. The reason is because they will install any parts you buy from them for free. (Did I tell you the trigger was as smooth as butter yet? Well, it is!)

I think I’m going to go make a dead squirrel video, since I’m feeling a whole lot perkier now that my rifle’s back.

Calling Squirrels?
(“Here Squirrel, Here Boy!”)

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Since, according to the guys down South, I don’t know squat about real squirrel hunting, I decided to wander the net and see what I could find. And, I did find a couple of things that most people won’t find very interesting, but that I’m going to post here anyway because I can.

First of all, I always thought my brother-in-law, WannaBee, was an Idiot for trying to call squirrels. Now, don’t get me wrong, he may still be an Idiot, but I found out today that the people down South actually do call squirrels when hunting, so it may work for him too…. Who knows.

I was reading an article in the Central Kentucky News Journal by Phil Junker that said that their squirrel season starts on Saturday, August 18, 2007. In the article, Phil mentioned visiting with Knight and Hale, who make squirrel calls… Who would have thunk that…..

  • Number one, that someone in Kentucky can write.
  • Two, that Kentucky has enough people who can read to need a newspaper.
  • And finally, that you can make a living making something called the “Squirrel Magic Calling Kit“. Here’s a link to if you want to buy one.
  • PS. Leave me alone, I was just kidding about the Kentucky thing! If you can read this, and you’re from Kentucky, please don’t write me and tell me you hate me. I already get enough hate mail from PETA.

OK, I just found the one interesting thing, which means I lied, sorry. If this makes you mad, please refer to the above paragraph.

Favorite Squirrel Hunting Caliber?
The .17HMR IS Mine!

Friday, August 10th, 2007

The guys over at Arkansas Hunting have a poll going to see who likes to shoot squirrels with which calibers. Right now, the 22 long rifle is in the lead, with the 17 HMR way down in the bottom of the barrel, next to the bow hunters. So, I need all the hunters out there who shoot the 17 to go over there, sign up for an account and vote for your favorite squirrel shooting caliber (as long as it’s the .17 HMR…). If they want to know where everyone is coming from, tell them SquirrelSniper sent you. LOL

Here’s a breakdown of the current poll. I’ve never used a shotgun to go squirrel hunting with, but you have to remember, these guys are shooting tree squirrels. I don’t have a clue as to the bow hunters. I can’t imagine shooting squirrels in trees with a bow. Every time you missed, you’d have to climb the dang tree and pull your arrow out. Doesn’t sound like much fun to me.

.17 Mach II 0 00.0%
.17 HMR 6 11.32%
.22 LR 29 54.72%
.22 Mag 5 9.43%
Shotgun 11 20.75%
Bow 2 3.77%

So, get over there and vote now!
