Do ya like prairie dog hunting?

There are tens (probably hundreds) of thousands of prairie dogs in the prairies of South Dakota that need to be thinned out.

Take a high powered rifle, a good rifle scope and lots of ammo and have some fun…and help the landowners in the process.

This video was shot in the Sioux Indian Reservation with their permission and direction from one of their guides.

You’ll have to get past the 40 second lead-in on the video before you get to the prairie dog shooting.

Here’s a fun video to watch – 295 in farm country in Michigan. Using a Remington 700 .22-250 rifle from sitting position.

Author mentions:

There is no closed season on woodchucks in Michigan. Nor are there any limits. They are considered a nuisance animal. Small game licenses are required to hunt them unless you are on your own property or are the invited guest on another’s property where the woodchuck is causing damage to the property. There are no firearm restrictions either so long as it is a legal gun to own. Woodchucks are true hibernators during the coldest winter months usually waking up in late February or early March.

Time to reduce the over-population of prairie dogs in a pasture.

Some good footage of what the .17 HMR and a .22-250 can do.

Make contact with some land owners who have infestations of these pesky varmints and offer to thin them out.

I love watching what .223′s and .22-250′s do to Prairie Dogs. I have a couple of friends who live in Montana, and I really need to get over there and shoot some P Dogs with my Bushmaster .223 next year. The sound of a .223 ballistic tip hitting a dog has got to be way more satisfying than the sound of a .17HMR hitting a ground squirrel…. (OK, I’m pretty sure that I don’t really believe that. I’m sure that both sounds are VERY satisfying. LOL)
