Varmint Hunting – Shooting Prairie Dogs – High Powered Rifle – South Dakota Hunting – Long Range Shooting

Do ya like prairie dog hunting?

There are tens (probably hundreds) of thousands of prairie dogs in the prairies of South Dakota that need to be thinned out.

Take a high powered rifle, a good rifle scope and lots of ammo and have some fun…and help the landowners in the process.

This video was shot in the Sioux Indian Reservation with their permission and direction from one of their guides.

You’ll have to get past the 40 second lead-in on the video before you get to the prairie dog shooting.

Enjoy!

Varmint Hunting – Riflescope iPhone Video Camera

How about video recording your shots using a video camera mounted to view through the riflescope?
I’ve see a lot of folks using regular video cameras using various mounting techniques (including duct tape, of course!).  But here’s a unique one using the iPhone video camera.
If you haven’t done this it takes some learning since you are now using the video camera LCD screen (in this case, iPhone screen) to find and acquire your target.  A very steady bench rest setup is best.
This shooter used his CZ 452 .22 with scope to shoot hares.
Enjoy…

Precision Shooting Program Improves Accuracy

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

I recently became aware of this book written by a marksman who has 20 years experience training soldiers how to shoot accurately and consistently in all kinds of environments.  He has taught on many different platforms and fully understands what it takes to accurately group shots for consistent hits every time.  Their lives depended on it!

Take a look and see what you think:

“Achieve Rifle Accuracy by First Achieving Rifle Precision”

If you own a rifle, you should be able to hit what you aim at! More so, you should hit exactly where you aim every time you squeeze the trigger. Accuracy or the ability to hit your target at any range and under any condition is dependent upon many variables:

  • Before you can have rifle accuracy, you must first have Rifle Precision!
  • Rifle Precision is the ability to consistently shoot the same way providing tight shot groups every time.
  • Tighter rifle shot groups will allow more accurate adjustments to your rifle sights as you zero in your rifle at any range.
  • I want to reinforce the fundamentals of consistency which are the Fundamentals of Marksmanship!

Do your Shot Groups look like A, B, C or D?

The Precision Shooting Program Can help You Achieve
Rifle Shot Groups like Groups G and Better!

Ground Squirrel Hunting – .17 HMR Rifle Stands Out

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Ground Squirrel overpopulation meets the .17 HMR rifle.

Over 200 ground squirrels shot in a 2 day period.  Once again, the .17 HMR proves it’s ability as a fast, flat shooter for small varmints.

Ground Squirrel Hunting With 17HMR Ballistic Tips

I’ve shown this before but wanted to highlight a few things:

1. The .17 HMR is a great rifle for ground squirrel hunting.  The .17HMR Ballistic Tips (17 gr) do an awesome job on these small targets.  The high speed shock kill very quickly.

2. We used a gun-mounted video camera for this video.  It works real slick, especially when shooting by yourself.  You don’t need a second person on the camera.

Stay tuned – we’re going to have a contest and a free drawing for a BSA Sweet 17 Rifle Scope in just a few days!
