Lots of good shooting. Lots of destruction. Thinning out the population that was overrunning the land.

Oh – BTW – that’s Shooting Ground Squirrels to some of you not from the West and Northwest!

Here’s a great video of DOZENS of sage rats biting the dust, being vaporized and generally being wiped out!

Rifle was .17 HMR – Savage 93R17 shooting CCI TNT hollow points

Ground Squirrel Hunting – Seasons Are Normally Open For Many Species

Check with your game and parks or wildlife resources departments in your state and your area. In many states, the season for ground squirrels and many other “pest” species never closes. So, no matter what time of year it is, you can almost always go out and find something to hunt. It’s good for the soul. It keeps you sane.

For example, here’s a list of species in Wisconsin that never closes:

Species with Year-round Hunting Seasons

The following small game species may be taken year-round with any valid hunting license* (except within state park and recreation areas from April 1 to September 14):

opossum

porcupine

red squirrel

skunk

thirteen-lined ground squirrel

woodchuck

weasel

The following species may be taken with a firearm year-round with any valid hunting license (except within state park and recreation areas from April 1 to September 14):

English (house) sparrow

European starling

feral pigeon (rock dove)

*No license is required for a resident, resident’s spouse or resident’s children to hunt small game on the enclosed farmlands where they live.
OK? Now go out and squeeze a few off and keep those shot groups close.

30 Days of Squirrel Shooting Left

It’s the first week in June, and that means there are only about 30 days of good squirrel shooting left, unless it stays cool and damp. While you can find pockets of squirrels to shoot, all the way up until the end of July in some places, the good shooting is usually done by the first or second week in July.

So, since I haven’t been out shooting this year, and feel like a fake squirrel shooter, could some of you guys send me some squirrel shooting stories and videos please? Please send them to ss@shootingsquirrels.com. Thanks,

New Squirrel Hunting Season Coming Up

It’s winter, and I’m weary of it. Here’s a 9 minute squirrel shooting video to get every body thinking about the new squirrel hunting season. The squirrels will start popping up in March, and as soon as they start popping up, I’m going to start popping them.

These guys are using a 22 magnum and a hand held camera, so the camera work is a little shaky from time to time, but we all started out that way.

This video made me laugh, because it sounds like a tourist video. “Come to beautiful Kansas and kill our squirrels. They are just waiting for you, and we are waiting for your wonderful tourist dollars…” LOL
