Do ya like prairie dog hunting?

There are tens (probably hundreds) of thousands of prairie dogs in the prairies of South Dakota that need to be thinned out.

Take a high powered rifle, a good rifle scope and lots of ammo and have some fun…and help the landowners in the process.

This video was shot in the Sioux Indian Reservation with their permission and direction from one of their guides.

You’ll have to get past the 40 second lead-in on the video before you get to the prairie dog shooting.

Want to see some good varmint hunting?

Trying to reduce the population due to the damage they cause.  Countless cattle and horses break legs every year due to the holes these prairie dogs create.  By hunting prairie dogs and thinning them out they also reduce the diseases and other ills these varmints bring.

Here’s a fun video to watch – 295 in farm country in Michigan.  Using a Remington 700 .22-250 rifle from sitting position.

Author mentions:

There is no closed season on woodchucks in Michigan. Nor are there any limits. They are considered a nuisance animal. Small game licenses are required to hunt them unless you are on your own property or are the invited guest on another’s property where the woodchuck is causing damage to the property. There are no firearm restrictions either so long as it is a legal gun to own. Woodchucks are true hibernators during the coldest winter months usually waking up in late February or early March.

Some pretty good shooting – clearing ground rats out of a horse arena.  This one is using a .22 Mag and finishes up with two excellent shots using a bow and arrow.

For me it’s time to shake off this cold winter and head out to the country and start thinning the population.
